Description

Menaliro, an adjustable wall light for reading

Menaliro is a narrow rectangular plate with a dark recess and a small cylinder near the top. It adjusts, so you can bring the light down onto the page and read in bed while the room stays dim. Inside is an integrated LED that gives 330 lumens of warm 3000K light. Power comes from the mains, and the switch on the plate is a push or a button, with a USB port for a bedside device on one version. The finishes are black, gold, or a gold head on a black plate.

Where to put it

Put one on each side at the head of the bed, or a single one in a guest room. It suits the wall above a desk in a home office, and indoors beside an armchair where you sit with a book in the evening.

How to install

There is one job here, and the height you read at decides where it goes.

What you need: An electrician, and the height marked from where you will sit.

Have a qualified electrician fit it at the height you marked.

Good to know

The head is adjustable, so you can change where the light falls later without moving the plate.
Choose the version before it goes up: the USB port comes on the push switch with USB version only.

What makes it good

The head adjusts, so one lamp serves a book in bed or a chair in the corner.
The light is warm at 3000K, which suits a bedroom late in the evening.
Fixed to the wall, it leaves the bedside table clear.
The plate is 6.9 in (17.5 cm) tall, so it suits the strip of wall between a bed and a wardrobe.
Three finishes, so the lamp can follow the metal already in the room.

$98.00

FITTED TO THE MAINS ONCE

It runs on mains power, and professional installation is recommended. Once it is up, it stays on the wall.

After an electrician has fitted it there is nothing more to do. The plate is narrow and rectangular, with the cylinder near the top.

POINT IT AT YOUR PAGE

The cylinder at the top of the plate is adjustable. Point it at your book and the light goes where you set it.

It is made as a reading light, so the light falls on the page rather than across the whole room.

FITS A NARROW WALL

The wall plate is slim and vertical, so the light goes on a narrow strip of wall beside a bunk where there is no surface for a lamp to stand on. Each bed can have one at its own height.

The cylindrical head sits near the top of the plate and turns, so the warm 3000K light lands on the book and not across the whole room. It is made for indoor reading and task light.

Common questions

Does it need an electrician?

Professional installation is recommended, so have an electrician fit it.

Can the light be angled?

Yes. The cylindrical head is adjustable, so you can point it at your book or at whatever you are working on.

How bright is it?

It gives 330 lumens. It is made as a bedside reading light, with the main light of the room doing the rest.

What color is the light?

Warm white at 3000K. It is the softer end of white light, which suits a bedroom in the evening.

Which switch versions are there?

Three: a push switch, a button switch, or a push switch with a USB port. You choose the version when you order.

Is the USB port on every version?

No. The USB port is on the push switch with USB version only. The port is there for a bedside device.

What is it made of?

Aluminum and iron. It comes in three finishes.

How big is it on the wall?

The plate stands 6.9 in (17.5 cm) tall, with the head near the top. There is little of it on show, so it works where a table lamp would be in the way.
