Mesaril Teardrop Globe Wall Sconce

Mesaril, a teardrop frame around a globe

Mesaril is a narrow teardrop frame of painted metal, with a white globe set near its rounded lower end. The open frame leaves most of the globe on show, and the sconce still looks good on the wall when it is off. It runs on a single G9 LED bulb, bought separately, and the bulb you pick is what lights the globe. The plug-in version has a cord with an on/off switch that plugs into a wall outlet, so you need no new wiring in the wall; the hardwired version connects to the house wiring and works from your wall switch. It is not dimmable. The frame comes painted black or gold.

Where to put it

Put it beside a sofa or armchair in the living room, along a hallway or landing, or next to the bed to keep the nightstand free. For the plug-in version, choose a spot where its cord reaches a wall outlet. The open teardrop frame suits a short stretch of wall between a doorway and a console.

1. Put the sconce together, as it needs some assembly.

3. Fix the sconce to the wall.
4. Plug-in version: connect the cord to a wall outlet. Hardwired version: have a qualified electrician connect it to the house wiring at the wall.

Good to know

• The bulb is not included, so have one G9 LED bulb ready before you put the sconce up.
• It is not water resistant, so keep it out of a bathroom; a bedroom or hallway wall suits it instead.

• The plug-in version's cord plugs into a wall outlet, so you can put it on a living room or bedroom wall without running new wiring; the hardwired version wires into the wall with no cord showing.
• As a wall lamp, it leaves the end table beside a sofa or the nightstand beside a bed free for a book and a cup.
• You fit the G9 LED bulb of your choice, and that bulb decides how the globe looks in a hallway or a bedroom.
• With the metal frame painted black or gold, you can match it to the metal finishes already in a living room or the picture frames along a hallway.
• At 14.6 in (37 cm) by 6.3 in (16 cm) by 4.7 in (12 cm), it fits a short stretch of wall beside a doorway or next to a bed.
