Description

Orimane, a wood sconce that senses movement

Orimane stands upright on the wall, a curved wood body left open at the top and the bottom. Light leaves both ends in two broad cones and lands on the wall, while the body stays darker. A sensor on the face reads movement and the light in the room, so in sensor mode the lamp comes on as you walk up to it and goes out after you pass, and steady mode holds it on instead. It is cordless, charged from a port on the back, and the beech comes dark or pale.

Where to put it

It suits a stairway wall you climb in the dark, or a hallway where a lamp has nowhere to stand. Beside a bed it works as a night light that comes on when you get up. In a living room, steady mode holds it on for the evening.

Size and details

Type: wall sconce with motion sensor; light from the top and the bottom
Material: beech wood; dark wood or light wood finish
Color temperature: warm light
Control: motion and light sensor; sensor mode or steady light; senses movement 120 degrees wide; switches off 15 seconds after the last movement
Power: built-in rechargeable battery; not hardwired
Charging: charging port on the back
Battery life: up to 8 hours of steady light; 1 to 3 months in sensor mode
Mounting: mounting hardware; no drilling
Use: home use in hallways, stairways, bedrooms and living rooms

How to install

The lamp goes up on the wall with no drilling and no electrician.

What you need: the mounting hardware; no drill needed.

Hold the lamp against the wall and settle on the height you want.
Fit the mounting hardware to the wall at that spot, with no drilling.
Set it to sensor mode so it comes on as you pass, or to steady light to keep it on.
Put the lamp in place on the mounting hardware.

Good to know

The sensor reads the space in front of the lamp, so put it up facing the way you walk.
Light spreads from the open ends, so leave clear wall above the lamp and below it.

What makes it good

It is wireless, so it goes on a stairway or hallway wall that was never wired for a light.
In sensor mode it lights the steps while you come down at night, then switches off once you have passed.
Steady mode keeps the light on instead of waiting for movement, which suits a quiet evening in the living room.
Light leaves the top and the bottom and washes the wall, out of your eyes beside a bed.
Two beech finishes, dark or light, to sit with the wood already in a bedroom or a hall.

A STAIRWAY WITH NO WIRING

It carries its own power, so there is no cable to run to it and nothing to wire in.

That makes a stairway an easy place to add light. There is no socket on this wall and the lamp does not need one.

IT LIGHTS THE HALL ITSELF

Sensor mode suits a hallway you cross with your hands full. The lamp reads the movement in front of it and the warm light comes up on the wall, so nothing on the wall needs pressing on the way through.

The warm light lands on the wall above the lamp and below it. The face of the lamp stays darker than the light it gives.

LIGHTS THE FLOOR AT NIGHT

Set it low on the bedroom wall near the bed. Light comes out of the bottom of the wood housing and spreads down the wall onto the floor, which is enough to cross the room at night without switching on the main light.

The housing turns 360 degrees, so you can aim the light along the wall or out toward the floor. It holds on a magnetic mounting piece and carries its own power, so the height is yours to choose.

Common questions

Does it need wiring or an electrician?

No. It runs on its own battery, so there is no electrician to book and the wall you pick does not need a socket on it.

How does it go on the wall?

It fixes to the wall with the mounting hardware, and there is no drilling.

How do I charge it?

Through the port on the back of the lamp. It is built in, so there are no cells to change.

Does it come on by itself?

In sensor mode it does. Motion and light sensors on the face read the space in front of the lamp, and the light goes out again 15 seconds after the last movement it reads.

Can I keep it on all the time instead?

Yes. Steady mode holds the light on.

What color is the light?

It is a warm light. The body stays darker than the light it gives, so most of what you see is the light on the wall around it.

What is it made of?

Beech wood, with a curved front that runs vertically on the wall. There are two finishes, a dark wood and a light wood.

Is it all right in a rental?

It goes up without drilling into the wall, and it comes down with you when you move.
