Selanvo Swing Arm Wall Sconce

$197.00

Bedtime reading gets a light that comes to you, then tucks back against the wall once the book is closed. The dark wood-grain plate and gold-colored arms look good even when it is off.

Keep an electrician out of it: the cord simply plugs into a wall outlet.
Choose the bulb you like: the socket takes a standard or Edison bulb.
The switch is right where the light is: a beaded pull chain hangs below the backplate.

Description

Selanvo, a swing-arm sconce with a ribbed shade

Selanvo has a dark wood-grain backplate, gold-colored jointed arms and a pale ceramic shade with vertical ribs. The shade comes in three shapes: a cylinder, a bell or a wide cone. Light comes out of the open underside of the shade and falls on the wall and the surface below. Swing the arm out over a bed or a chair, angle the shade toward you, and fold it back when you are done. It takes an E26/E27 bulb of your choice and plugs into a wall outlet. A pull chain turns it on and off.

Where to put it

Put one beside the bed, or one on each side of a headboard, so each side has its own reading light. It also works on the wall next to a reading chair in a living room, or in a guest room with a small nightstand. It is for indoor use only and is not waterproof.

Size and details

Type: adjustable swing-arm wall lamp
Backplate: rectangular
Material: metal and ceramic
Light source: E26/E27 bulb socket
Control: pull-chain switch
Power: plug-in, the cord plugs into a wall outlet
Mounting: fixes to the wall
Use: indoor use only, IP20, not waterproof

How to install

This sconce fixes to the wall and takes its power from a wall outlet through its cord.

What you need: an E26/E27 bulb.

Fix the backplate to the wall where you want the light.
Fit an E26/E27 bulb in the socket inside the shade.
Plug the cord into a wall outlet.
Pull the chain to switch it on.
Swing the arm out and angle the shade toward where you want the light.

Good to know

Choose a spot where the cord can reach a wall outlet before you fix the lamp to the wall.
It is rated IP20 for indoor use and is not waterproof, so keep it to rooms such as a bedroom or a reading corner in the living room.

What makes it good

Swing the arm to bring the shade out over the bed for reading, then fold it back toward the bedroom wall.
Because it plugs into a wall outlet, a reading chair in the living room can have its own light.
It mounts on the wall, which leaves the nightstand or side table free for books and a glass of water.
Light leaves the open underside of the ribbed ceramic shade and falls on the page, the pillow or the arm of the chair.
The pull chain hangs from the lamp itself, so the switch is always right next to the light, whether it's by a bed or a reading chair.

Selanvo gold and white wall light switched on beside an armchair in a daytime living room

READING LIGHT FROM AN OUTLET

The light mounts on the wall, so the wall beside a living room armchair can carry a reading light with a pull chain below the backplate.

The rectangular backplate sits on the wall and holds the swing arm and the ribbed shade out over the chair.

THE SHADE MEETS YOUR PAGE

The swing arm moves the shade out from the wall, so the light from its open underside falls where you are reading.

Fold the arm back when you are done, and pull the chain to switch it off.

GUEST ROOM NIGHTSTAND LEFT EMPTY

Common questions

Does it plug in, or does it need to be wired into the wall?

It plugs in. The cord plugs into a wall outlet, so place the lamp where the cord can reach one.

How do I turn it on and off?

Pull the chain that hangs below the backplate. The switch is on the lamp itself.

Can I adjust where the light points?

Yes. The arm swings out from the wall and folds back, and the shade can be angled, so you can aim the light at a pillow, a book or a chair.

Can I use it in a bathroom or outdoors?

No. It is rated IP20, made for indoor use only and not waterproof, so keep it out of a bathroom and outdoor spaces. Put it beside the bed in a bedroom or next to a reading chair in the living room instead.
