Description

Solavre, a wall light you can carry

Solavre lays a soft low light across the wall beside it, enough to find your way without lighting the room. The body is a slim cylinder, part wood handle and part frosted white diffuser, on a small round wood plate that matches it in dark walnut or a lighter natural tone. The battery inside runs it, so nothing has to reach it from a socket. Touch the handle to switch the light on, and hold your finger there to dim it. The lamp comes away from the plate for use in the hand.

Where to put it

Put it in a hallway where there is no socket, or in a closet above the shelf. Beside a bed it gives a low light to get up by, alongside a proper lamp for reading. Off the plate it goes with you to a dark cupboard. It wants a dry indoor spot, so keep it out of the bathroom.

Charge time: about 2.5 hours to a full charge
Mounting: round wall plate fixed to the wall with mounting hardware, no wiring
Use: indoor, dry locations
In the box: lamp with wall plate, USB cable, mounting hardware

How to install

The round plate goes on the wall first and the lamp goes on the plate. Nothing here connects to your house electrics.

What you need: mounting hardware, a drill if you are screwing the plate up, and a cloth to wipe the spot clean for an adhesive mount.

Charge the lamp with the USB cable before you use it for the first time.
Hold the plate against the wall where you want it and check the height, allowing for the 7.1 in (18 cm) lamp that goes on it.
On screws: mark the holes through the plate, drill, fit wall anchors where the wall needs them, and screw the plate flat against the wall.
If your hardware mounts with adhesive instead: wipe the spot clean, press the plate on firmly and give it time to set before you put the lamp on.
Put the lamp on the plate. Touch the wood handle to switch the light on, then press and hold to bring the brightness down.

Good to know

The lamp charges from the cable and goes back on its plate afterwards, so the plate stays where you put it.
The glow lands on the wall around the lamp, so pick a spot where that piece of wall is worth lighting.

What makes it good

It is wireless, so a closet shelf or a hallway wall with no socket near it can still have a light on it.
It comes away from its plate as a light in the hand for a dark cupboard or a walk down to the kitchen, then goes back on the wall.
Hold a finger on the wood handle and the light drops low, low enough to leave on in a bedroom at night.
About 80 lumens is night light level, enough to show a shelf or a doorway when you get up in the dark.
The wood handle and its matching round plate come in dark walnut or a lighter tone, so on a bedroom or hallway wall it reads like a small piece of furniture.

Solavre Rechargeable Wall Sconce

$98.00

Solavre walnut battery operated wall sconce lighting a closet shelf with a low warm glow

A CLOSET WITH NO POWER

Power comes from inside the lamp, so the plate can go on a closet wall or above a shelf where no cable reaches and no socket was ever put in.

The round wood plate sits flat against the wall and holds the lamp clear of the shelf. Its glow spreads on the wall around it and falls over the folded clothes below.

IT DROPS TO A GLOW

Here the lamp is turned down low on a hall wall, a soft pool of light on the wall around it while the far end of the hall stays dark. Holding a finger on the wood handle is what takes it down that far.

Left at that level it gives just enough light to walk by at night.

IT FITS A NARROW GAP

The body is barely an inch across, so it fits the narrow strip of wall between a bed and a door frame where a lamp has nowhere to stand.

Low on that wall it gives enough light to get up by at night, and it comes away from the plate if you want to carry it with you.

Common questions

Does it need wiring or an electrician?

No. Nothing here connects to your house electrics. The plate fixes to the wall on its own with the mounting hardware, and the lamp charges from a cable.

How does it attach to the wall?

The plate goes up with the mounting hardware that comes with it, on screws or, where the hardware mounts that way, on a clean smooth wall. The lamp then sits on the plate.

Can I take it off the wall and use it as a portable light?

Yes. The lamp comes away from its plate and goes back on afterwards, so you can carry it to a dark cupboard or keep it by you as a backup light and then put it back.

What is it made of?

A wood handle and a wood wall plate, a metal frame inside and a frosted acrylic diffuser over the LED. The wood comes in dark walnut or a lighter natural tone.

How do I charge it?

With the USB cable. Give it a full charge before the first use, then charge it again with the cable when the light runs low.

Can I dim it?

Yes. Hold your finger on the touch control on the wood handle and the light drops right down, low enough to see by in a bedroom without lighting the room.

Is it bright enough to read by?

No. It gives about 80 lumens from a 1 W LED, which is ambient and night light level. Keep a proper reading lamp by the chair or the bed and use this one for low light.

What kind of wall does it go on?

Screws hold the plate on any wall you can drill into, and they are what to use on textured wallpaper, on rough plaster and on bare brick, or anywhere you want it to stay put for years. An adhesive mount asks for a clean, smooth surface instead, such as painted drywall, painted wood or tile.
