Description

Tavelo, a compact wall light for reading

Tavelo is a narrow cylinder set near the top of a tall rectangular backplate. The body carries a crosshatched texture between smooth collars, in acrylic, metal and brass, with a brighter gold tone or a darker bronze. The head sits at an angle away from the wall so its circular face puts 330 lumens of warm 3000K light onto the page in front of you. A push switch on the head turns it on and off. Near the foot of the backplate a USB port charges a phone while you read.

Where to put it

Mount it beside the bed at reading height, so the head sits above the pillow. Indoors it also suits an armchair in a reading corner or in a living room, where it puts warm light on the seat, or a narrow hallway wall between two doors.

How to install

This lamp fixes to the wall and runs on mains power at 90 to 260 V, so professional installation is recommended.

What you need: a qualified installer, mounting hardware, and the spot on the wall chosen before the work starts.

Choose the height first. Hold the lamp against the wall beside the bed or the chair and set it a little above where you want the light to land.
Have a qualified installer fix the backplate to the wall and connect it to power.
Switch the lamp on and check that the light falls where you read.

Good to know

Leave the lower edge of the backplate clear when you settle on the height, since the USB port sits there and needs room to plug into.
Keep the head clear of the headboard so the button on its side stays easy to reach.

What makes it good

Beside the bed it gathers 330 lumens onto the open book.
The head points away from the wall, so the light gathers on the page you are reading.
Warm 3000K light suits evening reading in a bedroom or in a corner of the living room.
The USB port at the foot of the backplate charges a phone while you read.
The push switch sits on the head itself, within reach from the bed or the chair.

AN INSTALLER FITS IT

The lamp is fixed to the wall itself. The backplate is a narrow rectangle held flat against the wall.

It runs on mains power, so a qualified installer fixes the backplate and connects it.

SWITCH IT AT THE LAMP

A circular button sits on the side of the cylindrical head. Press it to turn the light on or off from where you are sitting, so the lamp is worked at the lamp.

The fixture is small, 2 in (5 cm) wide and 5.1 in (13 cm) tall, and it puts out 330 lumens of warm white 3000K light from a 3 W source. Mounted at head height beside a sofa, the button stays at arm's reach.

LIGHTS THE READING CHAIR

The head angles away from the wall, so the light leaves its circular end and gathers in a patch on the chair below. Nothing has to stand on the side table to light the seat.

The whole fixture is 2 in (5 cm) wide and 5.1 in (13 cm) tall, so it keeps close to the wall. Its 3 W source gives 330 lumens of warm white 3000K light, enough for the page in front of you.

Common questions

Do I need an electrician to install it?

The lamp runs on mains power and fixes to the wall, so professional installation is recommended. You choose the wall and the height, then a qualified installer mounts the backplate and connects it to power.

How do I turn it on and off?

With the button on the head. One press turns the light on and another turns it off, and it is within reach from the bed or the chair.

Can I charge my phone from the lamp?

Yes. There is a USB port near the lower edge of the backplate for charging a phone or another device. The lamp itself runs on mains electricity.

How bright is it and what color is the light?

It gives 330 lumens of warm white light at 3000K from a 3 W LED. The angled head puts the light into a concentrated pool on the reading area.

What is it made of and what finish does it have?

Acrylic, metal and brass, in a brighter gold tone or a darker bronze. The cylindrical body has a crosshatched texture between smooth collars.

Which rooms does it suit?

Bedrooms, living rooms, reading corners and hallways, indoors. It works best where you want light on one spot, such as beside a bed or an armchair.

How much wall does it need?

The backplate is 5.1 in (13 cm) high and 2.0 in (5 cm) wide, so it fits a narrow strip of wall beside a headboard or between doors in a hallway, and nothing stands on the surface below it.
