Venalti Plug-in Wall Sconce

$197.00

The bulb hides down inside the bowl, so the light comes off the glazed ceramic and settles on the wall around it. Your bedroom gets a low, calm glow at the end of the day.

No electrician and no wiring: it plugs into a standard outlet and goes up with the hardware supplied.
Your nightstand stays clear for your things: the light lives on the wall, not on the table.
Fits a bedside or a wide headwall: the disc comes in a smaller and a larger size.

Description

Venalti, a plug-in ceramic disc wall light

Venalti is an irregular rounded ceramic bowl with a white globe-shaped opening set inside it. The light goes into the bowl and comes back out across the wall, so what reaches the room comes off the ceramic. It takes one G9 bulb, which you choose and supply. The cord runs down to a standard outlet and carries its own on/off switch, so nothing is wired into the house. The glazed taupe surface varies a little from one piece to the next.

Where to put it

Put one on each side of the bed for bedside light, or use the larger disc on its own on a headwall. It also works on a desk wall or in a living room corner within reach of an outlet. Use it indoors.

Size and details

Type: plug-in wall sconce with an asymmetric ceramic disc shade
Sizes: 7.9 in (20 cm) or 10.2 in (26 cm) across the disc
Material: ceramic body in taupe with a white glass shade; firing gives slight color and glaze variation
Light source: one G9 bulb, not included
Control: inline on/off switch on the cord
Power: plug-in, AC 110 to 240V, cord 59 in (150 cm)
Mounting: fixed to the wall with mounting hardware; no hardwiring or junction box
Use: indoor
In the box: sconce, cord with plug and inline on/off switch, mounting hardware; bulb not included

How to install

The disc fixes to the wall with the hardware that comes with it and the cord plugs into an outlet. Nothing connects to your house electrics.

What you need: the mounting hardware supplied, one G9 bulb of your own, and an outlet within reach of the 59 in (150 cm) cord.

Pick the spot on the wall.
Fit your G9 bulb.
Fix the disc to the wall with the mounting hardware supplied.
Run the cord down to the outlet and plug it in.
Turn it on with the inline switch on the cord.

Good to know

The cord plugs into a wall outlet.
The ceramic is glazed and fired, so the taupe color and the glaze vary slightly from one piece to the next.

What makes it good

It plugs into a standard outlet, so you can put it on a bedroom or living room wall without an electrician or a junction box.
The switch sits on the cord, so nothing has to be wired in behind the light.
A living room corner gets a soft wash of light from the disc on the wall.
It goes on the wall, so a bedside table or a desk keeps its surface free for other things.
Two disc sizes, 7.9 in (20 cm) for a bedside wall and 10.2 in (26 cm) for a wider headwall.

AN OUTLET IS ENOUGH

The disc is fixed to the wall with the mounting hardware that comes with it, and the cord plugs into a standard outlet. Nothing is wired into the house, so there is no junction box to fit.

That leaves the spot up to you. A plain stretch of wall beside a desk takes it, with nothing to open up behind.

LIGHT OFF THE CERAMIC BOWL

The bulb sits down inside the ceramic bowl. What you see from the room is the lit glaze and the wall it falls on.

Beside a bed it gives a low, even glow at the end of the day. The lit disc and the patch of wall around it are all you see of it.

LIGHT WITHOUT A SIDE TABLE

The sconce sits on the wall, so the light does not need a side table under it or a corner of the floor. A sofa wall or a reading chair gets its own light with nothing standing beside it.

Mounted up on the wall, it leaves the surface below free. The side table under it stays clear for the things you actually use.

Common questions

Does it need an electrician or any wiring?

No. The disc is fixed to the wall with the mounting hardware that comes with it, and the cord plugs into a standard outlet. There is no hardwiring and no junction box involved.

How do I turn it on and off?

With the inline on/off switch on the cord. It comes fitted to the cord, so you turn the light on and off there.

What bulb does it take?

One G9 bulb, which is not included, so the look of the light is down to the bulb you choose.

Which size should I choose?

The 7.9 in (20 cm) disc suits most bedside walls and smaller spots. The 10.2 in (26 cm) disc is for a wide headwall or a larger accent. Both take the same G9 bulb and the same cord.

What kind of light does it give?

The bulb sits inside the bowl, so the light comes off the ceramic and spreads onto the wall around the disc rather than shining straight out into the room. It reads as ambient light in the corner it is on.

Will the color match the photos?

Close, but not exactly. Ceramic firing produces slight variation in the taupe color and the glaze, so each piece differs a little from the next.

How long is the cord?

59 in (150 cm), running from the disc down to the plug, with the on/off switch on the way. Choose a spot on the wall that keeps an outlet within that reach.

What comes with it?

The sconce with its cord, plug and inline on/off switch, plus mounting hardware for the wall. The G9 bulb is not included.
